Dear Parents,

One more week for these kiddos! I can't believe that we are coming to an end. It has been such a fabulous year and these kids have grown up so much. I have loved watching them grow and mature this year. I am sad to see it end!

We had our read-a-thon on Friday! It was a hit! We read for 1 whole hour. We did some independent reading and some group reading. We even had some special visitors come into the class and read to us! Mr. Cramer was a special reader, and also Ms. Surface, one of Pinebrook's 1st grade teachers. The kids were very excited and had a great time! Here are some cute pictures from that day.

Kindergarten News

1. Monday the 9th is our Pinebrook Volunteer Breakfast at 8:30! If you have been one of our volunteers this year, you are invited to come. Thank you to everyone for helping out with so many things this year. We have had helpers with parties, centers, activities, so many things! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!

2. On Tuesday, we are going to be making homemade Gak! I will post the link for the recipe on next week's blog post you want to make it at home this summer. It is a fun summer activity and keeps kids occupied for hours. :)

3. This Wednesday is our end of the year party! The theme is based on the TV Show, "Minute to Win It," and we will be playing different games with challenging tasks to accomplish. Thank you room moms for putting this together!

4. On Thursday, we are having our Kindergarten Field Day!!! Please have your child wear their swimsuit to school under their clothes. They will wear their swimsuits during the field day activities. Please wear shoes that can get wet as well. We are even having a petting zoo at field day! Then after drying out on the "kindergarten beach" and eating popsicles in the sun, they will put their clothes back on over their swimsuits. Please have them bring a beach towel with them. If you would like your child to wear sunscreen during field day, please apply it before coming to school. We will not be applying sunscreen to the kids at school previous to going outside. If it is raining that day, we will still have field day, but the activities will be moved inside and we won't be using any water. Let's think sunny thoughts! :) Please return the bright pink permission form for pizza and popsicles by this Wednesday. Without them, your child is not be allowed to eat these items this day.

5. After field day, we are having our publishing party for our "How To" Books. Parents are invited to attend and hear their child read their book out loud to the class. It will be short and sweet, right at the end of the day. The students have been working so hard on their books in writer's workshop it is time to show them off to their peers! I am so proud of them.

6. Friday, June 13th, last day of school!

7. Shared Reading books were sent home on Friday. Please keep them at home! We are done using them for the year. Homework is done for the year as well, so please leave the homework notebooks at home.

8. Last Friday in the orange folders, a packet was sent home for some summer literacy activities and ideas. There is even a list of 1st grade sight words that you can start reviewing to give your child a head start to 1st grade. Enjoy!

Thank you for a great year! I will be taking lots of pictures this week of all the fun. Stay tuned next week for a blog post full of pictures!
